Lyophilised

Freeze-dried — water removed by sublimation under vacuum.

Lyophilisation (freeze-drying) is the standard storage form for research peptides. The peptide solution is frozen to below its eutectic point, then water is removed by sublimation under vacuum at very low temperatures. The result is a dry, fluffy 'cake' or powder that is stable for years at −20 °C and stable for weeks at room temperature in transit. Lyophilised peptides must be reconstituted (dissolved back in water or buffer) before use. The cake should be clear or off-white; discoloration or dampness indicates degradation.
